What are braces

Braces are an orthodontic device that are used to ‘hold-on-to’ and move the teeth.

Braces allow the position of the teeth to be changed, not only to correcting abnormalities but also to improve aesthetic appearance and for improved ability in maintaining good oral health.

Braces can be used for both cosmetic and structural concerns.

Metal and ceramic Braces

Metal and ceramic Braces

Metal braces are the traditional orthodontic method used, they consist of metallic ‘brackets’ bonded to the front surface of the tooth with a metal wire running along each bracket. Tiny rubber bands are then used over each bracket to hold the wire in its place.

Ceramic braces use the same method as metal braces except the brackets used are ceramic. They are often preferred over metal braces due to the pale colour. The ceramic colour means that the brackets are much less noticeable than the metal brackets.

Lingual Braces

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces use a similar technique as traditional metal/ceramic braces, except the brackets and wires are placed on the inside surface of the teeth (beside the tongue). This means that your appearance is not changed and the braces are unseen.

Our team at Beenleigh Dental understand that sometimes teeth are a sensitive topic when it comes to looks and self-confidence. That’s why we offer alternative solutions to traditional metal braces.
